My Role:

My role was to design and perform a floral seminar / workshop for the 3rd annual Brazilian Film Series. The event was a festival celebrating Brazilian culture and Brazilian professionals / artists. There were various workshops and performances for fashion, dance, literature, and I was to conduct a floral workshop as part of the festival. The workshop would include me walking through and creating a floral centerpiece in real time.

Challenges:

I was to perform the workshop in one of the theaters at Cinema Village just off Union Square in Manhattan far from my home. The large theater would be completely filled with attendees who spoke either Portuguese or English. The performance space itself would be quite small and in front of the theater screen.

Solution:

In order to address the transportation challenge, I arranged for family and friends to help transport all of the materials to the theater via car service. I personally supervised the transportation of the materials so as to not to damage any of the delicate floral materials. I was able to overcome the challenge of a large theater with attendees at the back of the theater by projecting my voice and making use of a microphone where possible. Lastly, in order to prepare for a bilingual audience and a small stage I rehearsed with a mock stage in my home and would rehearse the performance in each language.
